What do premium, deductible, copay and coinsurance mean?
- Premium
- The monthly bill to keep the plan, whether or not you use it.
- Deductible
- What you pay before the plan starts sharing. Often waived on cheaper tiers.
- Copay
- A flat fee per fill — $15, say.
- Coinsurance
- A percentage of the drug’s price instead of a flat fee.
- Out-of-pocket maximum
- The yearly ceiling. Part D’s is set by law and the same everywhere.
